Vahan MARDIROSSIAN was born in Yerevan, Armenia, on May 26th 1975. In 1993, he entered the Paris Conservatoire (CNSM) in Jacques ROUVIER's piano class. He was also admitted to Jean MOUILLÈRE's chamber music class along with Nicolas Baldeyrou (clarinet) and Renaud Dejardin (cello), with whom he formed the Mardirossian Trio.
In 1996, Vahan Mardirossian was awarded the first prize for piano, the chamber music prize, and the Conservatoire's higher diploma, enabling him to go on to postgraduate studies. For two years, he furthered his training, following the advice of Jacques ROUVIER and taking part in many master classes given by great musicians including G.SEBÔK, D.BASHKIROV, C.FRANCK, and J-P.COLLARD.
Vahan Mardirossian has given recitals in many countries (Austria, Belgium, Canada, Croatia, England, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, Lithuania, Morocco, Netherland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Ukraine, USA …) and his performances were broadcasted in France and elsewhere. His partners in chamber music include such fine musicians as Nicolas BALDEYROU, Marina CHICHE, Henri DEMARQUETTE, Renaud CAPUCON, Gautier CAPUCON, Quartet "CASTAGNERI", Devy ERLIH, Thierry ESCAICH, Richard GALIANO, David GRIMAL, Jean MOUILLÈRE, Philippe MULLER, Jean-Marc PHILLIPS-VARJABEDIAN, Xavier PHILLIPS, Quartet "Ysaÿe" ...
Vahan Mardirossian came to the attention of Ivry GITLIS, who proposed him to play sonatas together. He has also worked with Mstislav ROSTROPOVICH - together they gave the first performance of Eric Tanguy's Cello Concerto No.2 - and with Henri DUTILLEUX, on the latter's Piano Sonata.
Since his debut as a pianist, he has regularly been invited to appear with orchestras including the Yerevan Chamber Orchestra, the Armenian Philharmonic, the Paris International Orchestra, the Bienne Symphonic Orchestra , the Portugal Symphonic Orchestra, the Lebanon National Orchestra, the Cannes Orchestra, the Ensemble Orchestral of Paris, the Paris Conservatory Orchestra. And he appeared at many festivals: La Roque d'Anthéron, Piano aux Jacobins, Cortona Festival, Festival of Menton, Auvers sur Oise, Piano en Vallois, Rheims (Flâneries Musicales), Cannes (Midem), Chamonix (Les Semaines Musicales du Mont Blanc), Les Arcs (Festival International), Séville (Music Season), Paris (Les TransClassiques), Bagatelle (Chopin Festival), La Chaise Dieu…
He is interested in contemporary music and his research has led him to work in close collaboration with the composer Eric TANGUY. The latter dedicated his second Piano Sonata to Vahan Mardirossian. Following his recital in Paris in April 2001, the newspaper Le Monde devoted a half-page article to Vahan Mardirossian, headed ‘PIANISTE PHENOMENAL!’
Vahan Mardirossian recently made a recording of works by Schubert, Händel and Brahms for the INTRADA label. He also made live recordings devoted to piano works by Eric Tanguy, and J.S.Bach Transcriptions recorded for TransArt Live label.
In 2005 Vahan Mardirossian will make his debut with French National Orchestra in Paris with Yutaka Sado, and in Spain with Kurt Masur.
